Kurt Cobain Wiki Biography

Kurt Donald Cobain was born on 20 February 1967, in Aberdeen, Washington State, USA. He was of Irish, English, Scottish, and German descent, and was one of the most popular musicians of his time, particularly known for his role in the legendary band “Nirvana”. Alongside his band, he received numerous award nominations and wins, including the American Music Award, Grammy Award, MTV Video Music Award, BRIT Award, among others. Despite the band’s significant success, Cobain struggled with personal issues and tragically took his own life in 1994, at the age of 27. His untimely death saw the loss of a talented musician who made a lasting impact on the music industry and his fans.

Estimated Net Worth: $100 Million

How wealthy was Kurt Cobain? Estimates suggest his net worth to be around $100 million, primarily derived from his prosperous career as a musician. Many of “Nirvana’s” songs became hits and remain iconic even today. Unfortunately, his wealth could no longer grow due to his early departure from the music world.

Cobain’s parents were a motor mechanic (father Donald) and a waitress (mother Wendy); however, his relatives were musicians who encouraged his musical talents from a young age. Tragically, his parents divorced when he was just seven, significantly impacting his childhood and shaping his rebellious teenage character. At the age of 14, he received a guitar from his uncle, sparking a passion that would lead to the formation of “Nirvana” with Krist Novoselic in 1987. Their first album “Bleach” released in 1989 had a significant impact on Kurt Cobain’s growing net worth. The band later released two more albums, “Nevermind” and “In Utero”, both receiving widespread success and solidifying “Nirvana’s” status as one of the most prominent bands of the era. They garnered a global fan base, and even today, “Nirvana” remains one of the most celebrated bands.

In his personal life, Cobain had several relationships, first with Tracy Marander, then Tobi Vail, but neither ended well. His relationship with Courtney Love began in 1990, and the couple married in 1992, welcoming their daughter Frances Bean in the same year. Despite his professional success and family, Cobain faced numerous personal challenges and attempts to take his own life. Despite his wife’s efforts to help him, he tragically ended his own life in 1994.

#Quote
1I would like to get rid of the homophobes, racists and sexists in our audience. I know they’re out there, and it really bothers me. So at this point I have a request for our fans: If any of you in any way hate homosexuals, people of a different color, or women, please do this one favor for us… Don’t come to our shows and don’t buy our records.
2None of you will ever know my true intent.
3[on his Irish ancestry] They came from County Cork, which is a really weird coincidence, because when we toured Ireland, we played in Cork and the entire day I walked around in a daze. I’d never felt more spiritual in my life. It was the weirdest feeling and I have a friend who was with me who could testify to this. I was almost in tears the whole day. Since that tour, which was about two years ago, I’ve had a sense that I was from Ireland.
4It just so happens that there’s a bunch of people that are concerned with what I have to say. I find that frightening at times because I’m just as confused as most people.
5I didn’t know how to deal with success. If there was a Rock Star 101, I would have liked to take it. It might have helped me.
6I never wanted to sing. I just wanted to play rhythm guitar – hide in the back and just play.
7When I heard the Pixies for the first time, I connected with that band so heavily I should have been in that band – or at least in a Pixies cover band.
8The music comes first. Lyrics are second. (When asked how he writes his songs.)
9If I went to jail, at least I wouldn’t have to sign autographs.
10I’m not gay, but I wish I was just to piss off the homophobes.
11“I stared into his eyes and told him that I thought he was a respectable human. I did tell him straight out that I think his band still sucks.” – on his encounter with Pearl Jam’s lead singer Eddie Vedder.
12[To ‘Weird Al” Yankovic’, when asked for permission to do a parody of “Smells Like Teen Spirit”] “It isn’t going to be about food, is it?”.
13I think people who glamorize drugs are f**king *ssholes and if there’s hell, they’ll go there.
14I’d rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not.
15I’m not a death rocker, and I don’t wear black.
16I’m not well-read, but when I read, I read well.
17Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are.
#Fact
1During a Nirvana concert, he witnessed a girl being groped in the audience. Without missing a beat, he threw his guitar to the ground (a Martin D-18E electric guitar, one of the rarest electric guitars ever made and worth a significant amount of money), dived into the audience and angrily confronted the man who groped the woman. Upon returning to the stage, Cobain and other band members openly mocked the man as he was being forcibly led out by security.
2His death was similar to that of Kenny MacLean and Layne Staley in that nobody found him until 3 days after he died.
3He was a strong supporter of LGBT equality and alike causes. He emphatically stated in an interview that if someone was homophobic, racist, or misogynistic, then they could do the band a huge favor and refrain from buying a Nirvana album or attending any of their concerts because he didn’t want their money and wanted nothing to do with them.
4His body was discovered on April 8, 1994 – a day on which he was originally scheduled to perform at the Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland.
5He died at 27 years old, making him a member of the “27 Club”; The 27 Club is a group of prominent musicians who died at the age of 27. Other members include Rolling Stones co-founder Brian Jones, guitarist Jimi Hendrix, singer Janis Joplin, The Doors frontman Jim Morrison, and Amy Winehouse.
6In a 2008 NME magazine interview, Courtney Love claimed that Cobain turned down the role of Lance in Pulp Fiction (1994). The part was eventually taken by Eric Stoltz.
7“Bleach”, the first Nirvana album, spells his first name as “Kurdt”. All subsequent releases use the more familiar “Kurt”.
8Despite Nirvana’s popularity, the group only released three studio albums.
9One of the last songs he ever recorded was entitled “I Hate Myself and Want to Die.” It was released on the “Beavis and Butt-Head Experience” compilation album.
10Cobain frequently changed up the words or order of lines or verses of his songs when performing them live, seldom singing them the same from show to show.
