The family of Brazilian singer Astrud Gilberto, also known as Joao Gilberto wife, has announced her passing at 83.

Joao and Astrud Gilberto became famous for their version of the popular song “The Girl from Ipanema.”

In the 1960s, they received much appreciation, acknowledgment, and love from all around the world.

Astrud’s granddaughter, Sofia Gilberto, informed everyone about her passing through social media.

According to the post, she passed away on June 5th, 2023, at her home in Philadelphia. However, the post did not feature her cause of death.

Although Astrud has now reunited with her soulmate, Joao Gilberto, her demise has saddened her family.

Joao Gilberto married singer Astrud Weinert, with whom he collaborated on the famous recording of “The Girl from Ipanema.” 

They had a son named João Marcelo. Unfortunately, the couple later got divorced.

Gilberto married singer Miúcha, who sadly passed away in 2018. 

Together, they had a daughter named Bebel Gilberto, who also pursued a career in singing.

Eventually, Gilberto and Miúcha separated. Gilberto also had a daughter with Claudia Faissol, a journalist.

Miucha passed away at her apartment in Rio de Janeiro on December 27, 2018. After a private ceremony, she was laid to rest in Niterói.

Throughout her career, Astrud Gilberto received several accolades, including the Latin Jazz USA Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1992 and induction into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame in 2002.
