Exploring the imaginative sci-fi universe of Alice In Borderland has been an absolute delight, with plenty of audiences championing the genre-infused thriller as one of the most exciting to hit Netflix in recent memory. Directed by Shinsuke Sato, it’s based on the manga by Haro Aso.
When the show first premiered on the platform in December 2020, it was quick to attract those familiar with the source material as well as new audiences entirely.
We’re plunged into a dystopian Tokyo in which characters must compete in a wild series of games to survive, and season 2 invited us back on Thursday, December 22nd, 2022.

Is Alice In Borderland’s Hikari actor transgender in real life?
The character of Hikari Kuina is portrayed by Aya Asahina and the performer is not transgender in real life, although we learn courtesy of a flashback that Hikari is trans. The flashback reveals that this caused a rift between her and her father.
On the other hand, the season 2 finale finds her and her father talking things out and putting their past behind them.
Asahina is a 29-year-old Japanese actress but also a fashion model.
Looking at her previous roles, she landed the part of Sayuri Enjoji in the TV series Tokyo Alice in 2017 and subsequently appeared in the likes of We Are Rockets (she played Nagisa Kurihara), Runway 24 (Momoko Inoue), Tokyo MPD – From ZERO To Hero (Machiko Sagisawa), and Girl Gun Lady (Mirei Hoshimiya).
While these are all shows, she also starred in the 2020 movie Grand Blue (Nanaka Kotegawa).

‘I knew Kuina would be a difficult role’
Aya was previously interviewed by aibnetflix on Instagram (translation on Ramin Nekouei) and asked how she felt about being offered the opportunity to star in the project:
“When I first received an offer, it was already set that Ms. Tsuchiya Tao (Usagi) and Mr. Yamazaki Kento (Arisu) are the main characters, and a few other characters were also set. I was super thrilled when I received the offer and if you haven’t seen the show yet, I have a few action scenes that I was very excited about.”
She continued: “I had always wanted to try action scenes so I couldn’t wait to film the action scenes. So when I got the offer, I was very happy and also a bit worried because I knew Kuina would be a difficult role.”
