Clive Davis (born April 4, 1932) is an American record producer and music business executive who has worked in the music industry for almost four decades. Five Grammy Awards have been bestowed to him, and he is a non-performer who has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Davis served as the president of Columbia Records from 1967 until 1973, when the company was acquired by Sony. For the period 1975 to 2000, he was the founder and president of Arista Records. He then founded J Records in 2001. Davis served as chairman and CEO of the RCA Music Group (which comprised RCA Records, J Records, and Arista Records) from 2002 to April 2008, as well as chairman and CEO of J Records and chairman and CEO of BMG North America. For the time being, Davis serves as the Chief Creative Officer of Sony Music Entertainment (SME). TLC, Aretha Franklin, Rod Stewart, Alicia Keys, Barry Manilow, Christina Aguilera, Carlos Santana, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Damienn Jones, and Jennifer Hudson are among the artists who have benefited from his work. Whitney Houston is credited with launching her career thanks to Davis’ efforts. Davis is a graduate of New York University, where he is honoured by the establishment of the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, which is part of the Tisch School of the Arts’ recorded music section.
