On June 1, 1990, Scarver went to the Wisconsin Conservation Corps training program office and found Steve Lohman(supervisor) and demanded money from him but upon receiving $15 from the supervisor he shot him in the head. As if that was not enough Christopher went ahead to demand more money from the site manager John Feyen. Feyen gave out a $3,000 check to Christopher. Later he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. He was detained in Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin, in 1992.

In 1994, while still in the prison he killed two of his fellow inmates namely Jesse Anderson and Jeffrey Dahmer whom they had been assigned to clean the prison gymnasium toilets. He struck down the two men with a 20-inch   preacher bar that he had removed from a piece of exercise equipment in the prison weight room. Anderson died two days later while Dahmer was declared dead an hour after arriving at the hospital consequently he received two more life sentences. He was released from prison on 9 February 2021  after being exonerated in a second murder case.
